Anthony Joshua faces a tight deadline to decide on a February rematch against Daniel Dubois, or risk forfeiting his chance to reclaim the titles, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, is pushing for a swift response from Joshua, who suffered a stunning loss to the 27-year-old at Wembley Stadium in September. Joshua was knocked down four times before his corner stopped the fight in the fifth round.
Initially, a rematch was slated for Saudi Arabia in February, but Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed concerns that the turnaround might be too rapid for his fighter.
Warren stressed to iFLTV that Joshua must respond within 48 hours, or the rematch plans will be scrapped. “We need to hear back from AJ promptly,” Warren said. “I aim to make an announcement soon, ideally tomorrow.”
Veteran promoter Barry Hearn, Eddie’s father, believes Joshua could triumph in a rematch with a tactical adjustment. However, he cautioned against rushing into the fight. “Dubois is formidable and confident after his recent victory,” Hearn told The Mirror. “AJ needs time to regroup.”
Joshua, who initially showed interest in a 2025 rematch, now faces mounting pressure to make a swift decision about his future.
IBF President Caryl Peoples has revealed that Dubois can opt for a voluntary defense against any ranked fighter before April 22, 2025. This opens the door for a potential showdown with Fabio Wardley if Joshua declines the rematch offer.
Joshua’s loss to Dubois marked another significant blow to his career, his fourth professional defeat in front of a hometown crowd.
