A reputable Nigerian football outlet reported that the team will now embark on a lengthy road trip to Benghazi, the host city for the return leg, covering a distance that typically takes approximately 3 hours and 24 minutes.
The platform posted an update on Facebook showcasing the Libyan team’s current circumstances.
This development may be linked to the Libyan team’s purported ordeal during their recent visit to Nigeria.
Allegations surfaced that the Libyan national football team encountered a hostile reception upon arriving in Nigeria, with team members detained at Lagos airport for over three hours last Tuesday.
Libyan news outlets disseminated images of team members sitting on the airport floor after their lengthy journey from Tripoli.
En route to their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Nigeria on Friday, the team traveled to Lagos before heading to Uyo.
According to reports, the Nigerian Football Federation allegedly neglected to provide transportation for the team, leaving them stranded for hours. Eventually, three buses were arranged to transport the team through rugged terrain, covering over 200 kilometers.
Reports indicated that despite traveling by private jet, the Libyan team was redirected to land in Lagos instead of their intended destination, Uyo.
