During the Tambuwal’s administration, a single waste disposal site was constructed at the exorbitant cost of 48 million naira (₦48,000,000.00) by Dasuki.
On January 26, 2021, the then Sokoto State Commissioner of Finance, Abdussamad Dasuki, led a delegation to Paris, France, under the guise of seeking a company that would handle waste management for Sokoto State, with the goal of making it useful through a program they designed called “Sokoto Waste Management.”
In Paris, the Sokoto Commissioner of Finance, Dasuki held meetings with two companies, VEOLIA and Conception de Francaise de Construction Internationale (CFCI).
After discussions with these companies, the Commissioner returned to brief Governor Aminu Tambuwal, stating that 6 billion naira (₦6,000,000,000.00) would be needed to construct a waste processing plant and five waste disposal sites in Sokoto, each costing 48 million naira (₦48,000,000.00), to collect waste before transferring it to the processing plant.
Eventually, a total of 6.2 billion naira (₦6,200,000,000.00) was allocated for building the waste processing plant and constructing the 48-million-naira waste disposal sites, with the promise that this waste management system would generate 2 billion naira for Sokoto annually.
Today, there is no waste processing plant worth 6 billion naira, no 48-million-naira waste disposal sites, and the funds are nowhere to be found.
