Atleast 20 people have been declared dead from the boat accident in Lagos.
The unfortunate event was also confirmed by the Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who reported that 11 of the passengers had been saved.
At least 20 people have been confirmed dead following the capsizing of two passenger boats in Lagos on Monday night.
Reports indicate that each boat was carrying 16 passengers and sank after a collision that occurred around 7 pm at Imore Lagoon.
However, the exact destination of the boats remains unclear. The accident took place on Monday night.
The tragedy was verified by Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who mentioned that 11 passengers had been rescued.
At least 20 residents were confirmed to have lost their lives after the two boats overturned in Lagos on Monday night.
Sources suggest that each boat had 16 passengers on board and sank following a crash around 7 pm at Imore Lagoon.
The destination of the boats has yet to be confirmed. The incident occurred late on Monday.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police spokesperson, affirmed the tragedy, stating that 11 passengers had been rescued.
The police also revealed that the boats were not registered and the accident was reported at the Ilashe Police Division.
Hundeyin said that all 32 passengers, along with their belongings, went underwater when the boats overturned. He added that the combined efforts of the police, local divers, and other emergency services were essential in rescuing the 11 survivors.
He mentioned that those rescued had sustained injuries and were immediately taken to Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for treatment. Search and rescue operations for the remaining victims are still underway.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
